From our secretary:
I wanted to let everyone know the NADAC trial at the beginning of December was a success, in spite of two new and inexperienced co-chairmen. We started at 8 am and finished about 6 pm. This trial traditionally fills and we did 350 runs. The courses had their challenges, but I think everyone had a good time. Many thanks, again, to everyone who helped organize and pull the trial together, and to the folks who pitched in and helped on the day of the trial.
NADAC is requiring that equipment have no slats by August 2004. At the judge's suggestion, we pulled the slats from the dogwalk and all but the very top slats from the A-frame (this is on CASA's equipment that we use for the trial. Our FRAC equipment was not and will not be changed). The A-frame height has been lowered to 5 feet. NADAC feels these are important safety issues for dogs. While this was something out-of-the-blue for many dogs, they seemed to handle it well. Fast dogs tended to slide down the A-frame to get their stop at the bottom, but many of them actually seemed to enjoy it and none of them refused to do the obstacle again. The up ramp to the dogwalk did cause several dogs to think they were on the teeter, and hesitate when the ramp didn't move, but then they went on and finished the dogwalk without a problem. Something to think about when training if you do NADAC. And remember the NADAC nationals will be in Castle Rock in 2004, from September 29 - October 31 Start counting up your points to qualify.

From our secretary:
Thanks to the hard work of our dedicated Laramie crew, and many other club members, our USDAA trial went smoothly and I think everyone enjoyed it. The judge was great, the entry was small enough we didn't have to rush or worry, and everyone was good about pitching in and helping. Besides our wonderful trial committee, headed up by Sandy Mullis, I want to congratulate Cindy Johnson on her first time as secretary. I didn't see her panic once the entire weekend! JoMarie, James and Jennifer Paintin and the family members they roped in, and Carolyn Hayden put in a lot of work setting up and cleaning up, thank you! A big thanks also to Marrin Sampson for keeping the workers hard at work, and to Liz Durfee for getting our courses set up. Plus the many helpful hands that pitched in to make the day go smoothly, you are all terrific.
If you see Julia Hunt or LeAnne Joswick please thank them for staying after the trial to help clean up, and thank Terri Crook for taking in the judge Sunday night and dropping her off at the airport Monday.
Plan on the December NADAC trial for FRAC's next event. And of course, it's never too early to start planning for USDAA in Greeley this spring....

And we have this note from our secretary:
First thank you to Joan Borel for all her work in getting us a spot and laying out such nice tables. Plus the liver cake that Quincy shared with our dogs. Thanks to Bob Massey for bringing the main course and to my husband Jim Platt for cooking it. Finally my personal thanks for Hale Landis and Connie Szeflinski for getting my car back to life, do you make this a habit to save people in need? [Oh, yea, I forgot to send Melanie a bill for that "roadside service"! HL]
We had a beautiful day, sunny but not too hot, no rain, just an occasional wind. Plus the water was right there to play in for the water loving dogs. The dogs got to play some agility and socialize. The food was great and we had the whole area to ourselves.
It was really nice to be able to sit down and talk, goof off in good company and get to know each other better. If you didn't make it to this picnic, I highly recommend coming to the next one (July 4th in Laramie for example).
Thank you to everyone who came, it was great!

The Fire Hydrant Five "Mother of All Dog Walks" and Fun Match was held on Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Edora Park, on Prospect near LeMay, in Fort Collins. The event was a fund raiser for the Larimer Humane Society. Sorry, we don't have any pictures from the event. The following message was received from Martha Faulk:

On behalf of the many fuzzy faces down on their luck (as Melanie so aptly described them), I'd like to thank you all for putting on the match at the Fire Hydrant Five yesterday. Wow! $353 for the shelter! And to think we had a good time doing it. Special thanks to Kathy Holland for creating the flyer, taking registrations, planning our course, and gate stewarding. Bob and Linda made the early morining trip with our equipment, and Bob patiently instructed many folks and their dogs on the "baby equipment." Melanie, Liz, Beth, Sandy, Joy, Megan, Kathy Kregel, and Kathy with the Schnauzer ( I know I've left off a few more of you) all deserve hearty thanks for setting up and taking down equipment. Joan, thanks for helping to organize volunteers early on. You know who you are--the dedicated workers who make it possible for this club to sponsor events. Martha Faulk |
