Policies and procedures

Here's an attempt at putting together a set of policies for our little group. You have to start somewhere...

Money stuff

It was agreed that the costs of operating the coop would be divided equally among its members, who would then not be restricted in the number of accounts, web sites, and mailboxes they could set up. We should probably agree that we'll not resell our access to others - not that such seems like a likely scenario.

The monthly membership cost looks like $25, though that is subject to change. Like all such things, this cost will be determined by the group as a whole. I looks like Jon will be handling the money side of things, though if somebody wants to volunteer for this role that would be great. Payment from each member can be handled with whatever frequency they think is best, as long as they stay ahead of the outgoing expenses.

Accounting will probably be done with gnucash, and will be be placed online where all members can see it.

There will be a too-be-determined entry fee which will be used to cover the startup expenses and establish a beginning "disaster fund."

There should probably be a maximum amount that can be spent out of the coop's fund without agreement from the group.

Membership

It is agreed that membership in the group should remain small. We want the coop to consist of people who know and trust each other. Thus, proposed new members should have a consensus from existing members before being brought in.

Domain name service

The coop is set up to provide both primary and secondary DNS service to its members. Bringing in domains requires the following steps:

Experience has shown that domains that could be possibly interesting should be registered immediately, even if there is not an immediate use for them. The coop should try to facilitate that, so possession of several domain names is explicitly not a problem.

Our primary nameserver is ns.g4coop.com - 206.168.112.22. It has Network Solutions handle NSF3784-HST and CoreNIC handle COHO-32689 (for joker.com registrations). Secondary nameservers are ns1.tummy.com (NS58979-HST, COHO-32691) and ns2.tummy.com (NSJ244-HST, COHO-32693).

Backups

Coop members are responsible for their own backups. We may want to consider a small investment in a pair of disks to set up a simple mirrored RAID array.

What else should be here?
